Universal Works is an English clothing brand we’ve encountered a few years back. When seeing it at an international fair, we directly felt like this would be the perfect addition to our men’s collection.
The company is rather young regarding its roots only go back to 2008 when founder David Keyte decided he wanted to make honest clothing based on fit and good design. You can see this in their collections: the items are never ‘over designed’, but purely made out of high quality materials, with a neat fit.
The inspiration derives from the founder’s younger years, growing up in a provincial area of England during the seventies. His family was an ordinary working-class type but with a profound love for dressing up nicely. By the look of Universal Works’ collections, you can see the influence of his family’s workwear but also their formal wear, when dressing up in the weekends.
What’s also nice about Universal Works is that they can really support the fact that they produce everything in the right place, both in the UK as oversees. They work with companies they trust, admire and are proud to be associated with.
By the way: the ladies at Gardrobe Store also like their fair share of Universal works – it works as a great styling tool with our other brands. Check it out in our first Visual story on gender-neutral dressing.
